Yes Virginia, There Are Good Men Out There

I’ll admit that I’ve taken the easy route to write this blog post because I’ve “borrowed” from the popular Christmas folklore Yes, Virginia there is a Santa Clause. In 1897, eight year old Virginia O-Hanlon wrote a letter to the editor of New York’s Sun newspaper asking is there really a Santa Clause. The response has been shared over the years with many children who were doubtful of the old guy’s existence.

My blog post is to all the single women out there who are losing hope and getting discouraged by what seems like a shortage of good men. It seems that good guys are only found in fairy tales. Yet, unlike the Loch Ness Monster and Big Foot, good men are not folklore. So here is my humble attempt to remind my single sisters to remain optimistic and to believe that there are good men left in the world.

“Virginia, your friends are wrong. They have been brainwashed by the media and society to believe that most men are cheaters and liars. They have been conditioned to think that eventually a nice guy will turn out to be a jerk.

They’ve had their hearts broken and have wasted time with the wrong guys for too long. They have become skeptical of any man who shows genuine interest or care.

But dear Virginia, you and your friends sometimes sometimes give in to guys that are below your standards because you’re afraid of being alone. You ignore the nice guys because you think they’re too boring. You seek adventure only to find disappointment. You’ve forgotten how smart, funny, beautiful and amazing you are because you only see yourself through the eyes of guys that don’t appreciate these qualities. You’re chasing emotionally and sometimes physically unavailable men.

There are 21st century men who are intelligent, compassionate, loving, fun, responsible, respectful, attractive, mature and yes: fun! They are looking for you just as you are looking for them. I have to be honest with you, Virginia, if you want to attract these men, you have to start focusing on your values, and look for guys that share the same values.

So Virginia, don’t give up yet. All is not lost. As a mom of two boys, I’m doing my best to raise exceptional men of character, and there are moms and dads who’ve already done this and their sons are waiting for you.

P.S. If you need help, Virginia, may I suggest working with two of my friends: Luisa Otero-The No-Nonsense Queen and Marina Sbrochi-Stop Looking For a Husband
